Somehow I forgot I lived near an old fashioned candy shop.
Regina’s Fine Chocolates is actually a 94 year -old candy shop that’s still owned by the same family.
I’ve taken her for granted.
Before the pandemic, I’d only visited Regina’s to buy treats for other people, but never myself.
That was a mistake.
The little storefront on St. Clair offers a candy counter full of homemade chocolates and candies along with gummies, licorices, jelly beans and just about anything else you can imagine. You may be surprised to learn the chocolate factory is located here, too.
Chewy things make the best desk candies. While you’re plunking away at emails or answering calls, you can slowly gnaw the head off of gummy bear or angrily stretch gummy worms between your teeth.
After working my way through a really bad bag of gummies – you know, the type where the cherry flavor tastes like cough syrup – I tried Regina’s.
Regina’s offers classics like gummy worms and sour peach rings plus seasonal candies. Each bag costs around $3.75.
After buying a several types of gummy candies, I can tell Regina’s doesn’t just source any candy. The candies I’ve ordered have included really high-quality fruit flavors.
One of my simples pleasures is placing my bi-weekly candy order online. For pick-up orders, simply note when and what location you would like to pick-up and they will waive shipping fees.
The chocolate eggs are a marvel of their own.
Regina’s chocolate eggs have long been a tradition for some of our relatives who grew up in St. Paul.
I grew up in the southern suburbs and our go-to candy shop was Abdallah’s. We love the turtles. My folks still drop off a basket of Abdallah goodies each year.
My mother-in-law dropped off a couple chocolate eggs. I sliced one open and found walnut fudge nuggets covered in smooth, high quality dark chocolate. In another egg that I bought later, I found bouncy maple marshmallow enveloped in the same dark chocolate.
Of course you can choose a milk chocolate coating and other fillings that include caramel, peanut butter, coconut, buttercream, something called cherricream, and divinity.
They’re the perfect candy.
I found them on sale when I went to order more after Easter. They come in several sizes from palm-sized to 16 oz. Even when the eggs are no longer available, I would seek out more of their chocolates because of how good these are.
