It Doesn’t Matter If They’re The World’s Best Donuts

It doesn’t matter if they’re actually the world’s best doughnuts. They may be and they may not be. But they’re the world’s best doughnuts right now.

We ordered four doughnuts – a glazed cake, glazed raised with sprinkles, banana cream, and cherry-filled. I hesitantly unfolded the 20 dollar bill in my purse hoping it was enough.

“That’s be $5.25” the woman said.

I refer to World’s Best Donuts as “grandma doughnuts.”

I Never Thought I’d Dedicate A Post To A Breakfast Buffet At The Best Western

This blog post is extremely unsponsored.

Grand Marais looks like a neighborhood that Michael could have designed to be The Good Place.

It’s idyllic. It’s super Scandinavian. People wearing sweaters and holding ice cream cones wander the quiet streets. Someone might wander by holding a freshly caught fish.

The mention of “Grand Marais” throws Minnesotans into a tizzy, a dreamy state of frenzied joy. Those who have been will tell you about the World’s Best Doughnuts (yes, that’s what the shop is called), suggest you eat some lake fish, and share the best places to hike.

After one visit, I’m now one of these people.

My Most Favorite Farmers Market Breakfast

I’ve had all summer to think about this.

My favorite farmers breakfast is from the big Minneapolis Farmers Market on Lyndale.

It consists of two things:

  • Iced Vietnamese coffee with boba pearls from Rainbow Chinese ($5).  If you are lucky enough, the owner may mix it up for you. It’s so flipping good I long for it all week.
  • Spring rolls and/or egg rolls. There are no bad egg rolls at the MPLS farmers market. Rainbow sells big ones. GreenHearts (also listed as Vang Express) sells long, thin egg rolls and huge spring rolls. Their spring rolls are nearly twice as large as everyone else’s and cost only $3. They’re packed with shredded veggies. Sometimes you can choose from different meats or vegetarian ones. Last time they included some sliced chicken breast.  Another vendor down the stall from Rainbow (I think it’s called Deelish) also sells egg rolls and spring rolls + coconut curry.

Our Favorites & Something New: My Minnesota State Fair Post 2019

The best holidays are The Minnesota State Fair and Halloween.

To be honest, I wasn’t super drawn to the new list of new fair foods this year.

I know deep fried things on sticks aren’t light fare, but a lot of the items seemed to be very heavy like grilled sandwiches, foods that could either be very good or very bad (al pastor waffle, lahmucan) or boring (fried feta bites, boneless wings, or “build your own burger.”

Build your own burger as a new vendor? lol come on.

This year, we’re following the same philosophy as we dud last year. We’re not trying a new food simply for the sake of trying a new food because $$$. I’ll let the food critics go there first.

The Cheese On A Stick At Valleyfair Is Still Good

Can two adults who don’t want to ride rides occupy themselves for a whole afternoon at Valley Fair?

Not exactly.

If you’re into the waterpark or floating around the lazy river, then yes! But otherwise, no.

Fifteen years have passed since I’ve been to ValleyFair. It’s been about the same for Jake. We curiously returned as part of my work’s employee appreciation event. It was a laid back type of event where you could simply stop by.
