Trying Allure’s Beauty Box: Reviewing The February 2019 Products

As a subscription box drama follower, I’ve noticed a couple of things about the Allure box:

  1. People feel it provides an excellent value for $15 per month.
  2. People complain about the customer service and billing issues.

When I learned that I could subscribe and cancel easily through Amazon, I signed up. Currently, Allure offers the first box for $10 and ships a welcome gift later.

There does seem to be slight variations in products subscribing through Allure vs. Amazon but my priority is never dealing with billing or cancellation issues so I can deal with that.

With the click of a button, I subscribed via Amazon and my February box arrived about one week later.

Sephora Play! January 2019: The Dreaded Mushroom Latte Box

A recent NY Times article scolds “Your Hoarding of Sephora Samples is Out of Control.”

Their promotional Tweet asks “Are you buried in samples of cosmetics, lotions, hair products or perfumes?” to which I’d respond, “Yes, yes I am. And I like it.”

Sure, samples take up space. Sometimes they cause you to fall in love with the product so hard that you purchase the full size. But here’s why samples are so great:

They’re cheap, if not free. They’re easy to stretch – e.g. I made a tiny Kiehl’s serum last two months. You can try before you buy. If something doesn’t work, share it with a friend. Samples are fun and they bring me joy.

Also, I don’t feel bad about accumulating samples because I use my gd samples.

Sun Basket Meal Kit Subscription Box Review: Week One

I am a subscription box nerd, yet it has taken me years to try one of those meal delivery kits.

Plated, Hello Fresh, Blue Apron, Home Chef, Green Chef, Blue Apron. . . there are so many. So, why did I choose to start with Sun Basket?

These are the three reasons:

  • The variety of meals caught my eye. I read a lot of meal kit reviews, but this service seems to serve a wider variety of dishes that aren’t boring or too simple.  I like toasted  sandwiches and tossing a few things with pasta for dinner, but don’t need to pay for a subscription box offering meals of this nature. You can also choose from a large variety of meals of many influences each week that include proteins like shrimp, steak, and fish.
  • The portion sizes are generous. What has turned me off from trying other meal kits is the skimpy portion sizes. We’re hungry after work. If I’m going to pay $12+ dollars per plate that I have to make myself, I expect it to fill me up. Sun Basket’s portions appeared noticeably larger.
  • Sun Basket offers discounted introductory rates. Coupon codes float around the internet. The one I used gave me $25 off my first box and $20 off my second bringing the cost down to around $46 and $59 per box for each box of three meals.

Candy Club Box Review #2: Why I Chose Boring Candies

The life lesson I’m taking away from my subscription to Candy Club is that you can have too much of a good thing. And by “good thing” I mean something that you like, not necessarily that’s good for you in a nutritional way. I mean, it’s candy!

Last month I received my first candy club box. The promo code I used provided double the amount of candy for the price of one box. This meant that I got to pick out six kinds instead of three.  I subscribe to the month-to-month option meaning I pay more per month ($27.99 +$6.99 shipping), but can cancel any time. The other plans cost less but commit you for six or 12 months.

It’s a hella lot of money per box. I would never spend $35 on candy each month. It’s definitely a splurge (albeit a fun one) and since I referred two people I get my next two boxes for free.

Candy Club Subscription Box Review

I’m obsessed with subscription boxes.

It’s been three years since I’ve even subscribed to a subscription box service, but I love keeping up with the latest drama; who sends fantastic boxes, who is taking people’s money and running, and who is sending erratic emails to customers.

One box that’s fascinated me for a while is Candy Club. Their variety of sour and chewy candies grabbed my attention more so than other candy box companies, plus you can choose your own candies.
