Walking Around & Eating Stuff In Clayton, Missouri

We are fortunate to have very nice neighbors. One of them is named George. He’s also a St. Louis transplant.

This weekend, we had initially made plans to walk to Bar Les Freres to enjoy drinks and a meal. George had bigger ideas: “Let’s go on a food crawl!” We shrugged. OK! I had to work early the next morning and volunteered to be the designated driver.

Jake and I really haven’t explored many restaurants in downtown Clayton. The parking can be tricky and many of the restaurants seemed fancier than what I’m typically in the mood for. George has further explored Clayton and offered to show us a few of his favorite dishes.

Eating Gumbo At The Bar: Riverbend

This is a little post about our new, favorite remedy for a hectic day.

There’s a restaurant called Riverbend located not very far from our home and next to our favorite liquor store.  From the outside of the restaurant, you can’t tell how spacious and warm the inside is or hear the music. A few weeks ago, the ALIVE Influencer Network hosted a “Tasty Takeover” of a weekly event called Venture Cafe that connects local entrepreneurs. This event was open to everyone to attend at no cost. The theme focused on innovation in food and beverages. Local chefs, beer brewers, and food media folks spoke on panels and shared samples. As a newish STL resident, I enjoyed the opportunity to learn and connect with others also interested in food.

I Finally Tried Imo’s St. Louis-Style Pizza For Myself

The first time Jake tried a Provel pizza he called me.

He described how he had tried to double check that his particular pizza would be topped with mozzerella instead of Provel cheese. The person who took his phone order confirmed this. When his pizza arrived, he knew something was different.

“I found myself eating around the cheese.”

This statement concerned me because Jake loves cheese. Like, a lot. All kinds. Don’t ask what percentage of our typical grocery shopping trip is composed of cheese.

Therefore, I was scared.
