It’s been way too long since I’ve attended a a summer food and culture festival.
Our friends randomly asked if we wanted to check out a Greek Festival so off we went. St. George’s Greek Festival occurred last weekend (August 18-19th).
I have no idea how many years this festival has occurred, but my guess is many.
Volunteers warmly welcomed guests and served a variety of foods and beverages.
Entrees included gyros, different types of kabobs (souvlaki), moussaka and spanakopita. We got so full on savory food that we left no room for dessert. Not even the baklava sundae.
The food and beverages here were affordable and very good. We grabbed some Greek beer and wines beforehand.
We were happily surprised to see a saganaki stand at the festival. It’s a dish we order every time we see it on a restaurant menu.
We devoured the melty piece of cheese flambeed with brandy into a paper boat garnished with pita, olives, and a lemon wedge.
From there we ordered gyros and french fries generously dotted with feta. The fries were crisp and well seasoned. I consume what some may call a disturbing number of gyros each year; this was one of the best.
We sat down to eat soon before Greek dance lessons began.
Every so often a volunteer would announce the next tour of the church. The sanctuary was also open for glimpses and candle lighting and a bake sale occurred upstairs.
This is all to say that we had a lot of fun at the festival and thought the food was better than average. Learning that the church is conveniently near our home makes it convenient to return again next year.

This looks like a dream. I’m a fan of Greek food & those feta fries? Yum! I’m disappointed you didn’t use some spare reserve to get some dessert though!!
